Snorkeling Near-NDE

I have too many blog posts on near death experiences.  This is only the second one.    But I’m not a cat- I don’t have nine lives.  So two seems like a lot. My most recent NDE was two days ago, so I feel the need to share it with you.  NDE may be somewhat of a stretch for this scenario, but there was several minutes when I didn’t know if I was ever going to make it out of the ocean.  And there was a few additional minutes of me wondering if my friend had already drowned.  So, I think we’ll let this qualify as an NDE even if it is a mild one.

A Flashflood Leads to a NDE

It’d been on my list of hikes to do in Maui for a while: the Commando hike. Cautioned never to attempt it without a local, I waited patiently for the opportunity to go. Everybody’s schedules finally aligned on Friday, but mother nature had other plans. It rained that morning, which means its absolutely not an option to do the hike. Not safe to hike up the river in high waters. We made the best of the day and hiked chutes and ladders on the west side of the island instead. Commando would have to wait.

Try as I might, I just can’t recall how I felt about becoming a nurse. Maybe my pure, idealistic hopes are buried deep down underneath all the layers of animosity, fear and skepticism I’ve accumulated over the past three years of nursing.
